The "Melina" Project: Education and Culture is a cooperative venture by the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education and the General Secretariat of Adult Education aimed at bringing children into contact with art through the educational process.
Between 1995 and 1996 the Department of Educational Programmes of the Benaki Museum undertook to research, develop and co-ordinate a programme of museum-based education intended to further children's knowledge of Greek traditional culture. Publications outlining traditional customs and the basic elements of folk art, proposals for activities and an exhaustive bibliography are included amongst the materials that were prepared for this project. Twenty-six educational programmes suitable for children in their first year of primary school have been set up in selected regions of Greece. The programmes include preparatory material for teachers and a story or game for children.
The material that has been published as part of the "Melina" Project can be borrowed from the Benaki Museum's Department of Educational Programmes in the form of educational folders (available only in Greek).
