VISIT

The exhibition will be held alongside the 3rd Conference of Art Librarians (February 5-6, 2010) presenting books written by Greek and foreign travellers who toured Greece during the first half of the twentieth century (1900-1950) and recorded images of towns, villages, monuments and everyday life in Greece, either with sketches or photographs - using the new and realist medium of that era - images that are lost or are slowly being forgotten. 
Although conditions were difficult in Greece, with the Balkan Wars, the Asia Minor Disaster and the German Occupation, this didn't stop certain daring individuals from travelling and getting to know the country up-close and personal, and recording their impressions and their stories in travel books that are included in the exhibition and are derived solely from the Library collection.
